9. NEW BUSINESS (Cont'd)
Mr. Lennon advised they have met with the City Council
and the Mayor's Cabinet members and we are requesting
volunteers from the Commission to meet with the Mayor
and Mr. Hojnacki.
Mayor Miller is naming and announcing today that Mr.
William Hojnacki will be serving as Acting Director
of the Department of Community Development during
the transition period of reorganization.
The whole concept of reorganization - involves eight (8)
areas: Department of Redevelopment; Housing Authority of
South Bend, Model Cities, Equal Employment Opportunity
Office, Bureau of Substandard Buildings, Civic Center
Authority; Plaza Authority and the Bureau of Housing.
What may happen in the future is to have all the pro-
grams consolidated under Community Development, and
in light of this, we would like to have two Commissioners,
and not staff, to serve on the Task Force for reorganiza-
tion.
Reverend Williams and Mr. Chenney advised they could not
volunteer for the above, due to the time element and
their other commitments.
Commissioner Wade volunteered the services of Mr. F.
Jay Nimtz and Mr. Donald A. Wiggins to serve on the
Personnel Committee, as they both have extended service
with the department and are very knowledgeable. The
volunteers accepted and the Chair appointed F. Jay Nimtz
and Donald A. Wiggins to serve on the`Personnel Committee.
Acting'Executive Director for the Department of Redevelo - ACTING EXECUTIVE
ment: Mr. Lennon recommended the Commission consider DIRECTOR NAMED:
Attorney L. Kent Wilcox, now serving as Mr. Lennon's
Deputy Director, to serve as Acting Executive Director L. KENT WILCOX
for the Department of Redevelopment, to be officially
authorized to sign documents and serve in this capacity,
effective September 16, 1974. This is required by the
Department of Housing & Urban Development. We must have
someone in the position for the responsibility of the
amount of money going through this Department. Mr. Lennon ACTING DEPUTY
also requested Mr. C. Wayne Brownell be named as the Act- DIRECTOR NAMED:
ing Deputy Director for the Department of Redevelopment.
C. WAYNE BROWNELI
Mr. Lennon advised that Mr. L. Kent Wilcox would not re-
ceive any additional compensation for this assignment,
and would still be in his capacity as the Executive
Director of The Housing Authority of South Bend. This
would be a temporary assignment for Mr. Wilcox and this
is suggested in the interim of reorganization. Mr.
Wilcox and the Board of Housing Commissioners have agreed
if it is agreeable with the Redevelopment Commissioners.
- 12 -
