7. PROGRESS REPORTS (Cont'd)
on the Southeast side. Basically meetings are to be held
on the types of grants, how administered, who makes the deci-
sions, etc., and get public input. The awarding of the con-
tracts could go through the Board of Works or through this
Commission.
Stro g neighborhood input was suggested by Mr. Wiggins. Rev.
Williams stressed we must get neighborhood participation and
the eople on the southeast side must be brought up to date
on w at ensued in the Model Cities area or they will not buy
the rogram. They are more interested in the type of program
bein introduced and not the Brethren site.
Mr, lennon said the Model Cities Code Enforcement Program was
fund (d and our Commissioners had the overall responsibility
and t has worked well. They are up to about 84 houses now
whicf is very good. The PAC contract would be signed with a
member of the Committee as a liaison officer developed within
the cuidelines, family income, etc., and proceed on that
basiZ again. They need to negotiate who they want as their
repr sentative or their inspection team and advise the Com-
mission.
As to Rev. Williams' question, "Under whose suggestion was it
that we do this ? ", Mr. Lennon answered that it was Councilman
Nemeth; the Mayor had recommended an independent 12 -man action
team. The Reverend's question if Councilman Nemeth had said
it should come through Redevelopment and as Commissioners where
they 3tand, Mr. Lennon said we do not know if the Council will
accept the Redevelopment Commission as the contracting agency
and tat is why this was discussed with the Commission Monday.
We wo ld like to begin in this construction season and not de-
lay i for another season.
d Neighborhood Development Project (SE #1 and MN #1), NDP A -10 PROJECT
Ind. -10: Mr. Lennon advised t is was a so discussed
earli r. This will be conjunction with the Southeast PAC
and a meeting is set for this Monday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m.,
in the Broadway Christian Parrish.
e Rasmussen Fund: Mr. Lennon advised he had met with "WILLIAM R_ RASMUSSEN
the C mmissioners on the Rasmussen fund June 4, with Mrs. MEMORIAL FUND PROJECT
Rasmussen and Mr. Kagel. We will apply for a matching grant.
Mrs. Rasmussen was successful in obtaining additional funds.
f. North American S ins -- Progress of Can o y Signs; R -66:
Mr.No 1 Yarger of North American
S_ igns - advised they plan to
have the signs completed by the 25th of June, with an estimate
of one-third who will have names on them by that time. The
tenants who have not signed for the sign lettering can purchase
later, but it will be more expensive than in a group. The
archit cts from Pittsburgh felt this is perfectly permissible.
- 14 -
