6. NSW BUSINESS
a. Sculpture Locations: Mr. Ed Bauer submitted the re- SCULPTURE LOCATIONS,
commendation from the culptural Committee on the placement R -66
of the three pieces of sculptures in the River Bend Plaza,
R -66. This was discussed in length in the previous session.
The following recommendations were made by Environmental Plan-
ning aid Design (Joint Venture Consultants with Clyde E.
Willia s & Associates) for the three sculptural awards, which
are to be placed on record:
b Disposition Parcel No. 7-IA: Commission Legal Counsel, RESOLUTION NO. 474
Mr. Ke in J. Butler, advised t e Redevelopment Commission, by RECONFIRMED, DISPOSI-
Resolu ion No. 474, adopted on February 15, 1974, accepted the TION PARCEL NO. 7 -1A,
bid of Earl Gagosian to purchase Disposition Parcel No. 7 -1A, R -66
and au horized the preparation and execution of a Redevelopment
Agreement and a Quit -Claim Deed relative to said parcel.
The No ice of the Redeveloper's Public Disclosure Statement has
now been published. Proofs of Publication were shown as pub -
lished in The South Bend Tribune on February 22 and March 1,
and in the Tri- County News on February 22, 1974.
1) The Robert Kuntz piece: "RECTANGULAR SHAPES"
be located within the formal garden area at the
north end of Block 11, opposite the Morris Civic
- Auditorium and the entrance to the interior drive.
Gravel base and a matching color foundation to
absorb the metal stain is also being considered.
2) The John Mooney piece: "CONTINUOUS YOU" be lo-
cated within the free form planter in Block 5,
adjacent to the J. C. Penney Company entrance and
opposite Robertson's Department Store, south en-
trance. This location would require little or
no re- orientation of trees or plantings and the
sculpture piece would rest on a black granite
base. This piece was originally contemplated
for the Western Avenue site.
3) The Doug Gruizenna piece: "ART -METAL FORM" is
recommended to be located within the terrazzo
piazza in Block 3, opposite Baer's Furniture
and Appliance Center on the east side of the
area. Because of the multiple use projected for
this all- purpose area, it is further recommended
that the piece be bolted down and be made re-
movable. If and when the piece is moved, it can
also be relocated in the triangular section in Block
2. This piece weighs 3,000 pounds. An alternate
base foundation may not be within our budget.
Motion
was made by Mr. Chenney that we accept the recommendations
of our
consultant, Environmental Planning and Design. Motion was
second
d by Rev. Williams and unanimously carried.
b Disposition Parcel No. 7-IA: Commission Legal Counsel, RESOLUTION NO. 474
Mr. Ke in J.
