4. COMMUNICATIONS (Cont'd) <br />On motion by Rev:. Williams, seconded by Mr. Wiggins and unani- <br />mously carried, the above letters were received and placed on <br />file. <br />5. OLO BUSINESS <br />a. Report of Mayor's Recommendation on RIVER BEND PLAZA: <br />Mr. Le non advised the Redevelopment Commission as well as <br />the Board of Public Works had adopted the name of the mall <br />to be RIVERBEND PLAZA, as recommended by Mort Linder, Chairman <br />of Board & Chief Executive Officer, Linder & Kerrihard Company, <br />Inc., for the logo instead of the form submitted by the win - <br />ning contestants, RIVER BEND PLAZA. This suggestion was <br />adoptec pending the acceptance and final recommendation by <br />the Ma or. <br />The si individuals who had submitted the winning entries have <br />objected to the name change and Mayor Jerry J. Miller has re- <br />commended and announced the name be changed to read, as sub- <br />mitted by the contestants: "RIVER BEND PLAZA." <br />Motion was unanimous by all Commissioners to officially go <br />on rec rd with the recommendation and our records to show the <br />mall, freviously referred to as the Pedestrian Way, Project <br />Indian R -66, to be officially called and referred to as: <br />RIVER BEND PLAZA. <br />6. NEW BUSINESS <br />a. Sculpture Competition: Mr.. Lennon advised the results <br />of the competition for local artists and sculptors were very <br />well received by the large number of visitors who attended the <br />showing at the Indiana Club, Tuesday, January 22. There were <br />62 entries reflecting the work of 34 artists. The three judge <br />panel elected the three major pieces for the possible commis- <br />sions and also selected the three other entries for honorable <br />mentiorl awards. <br />As a result of the fabricators' estimates, the Sculpture Com- <br />mittee has. asked two of the winning artists to resubmit their <br />bid for doing the work to the Commission. The date for this <br />rules compliance is set for February 13. The Committee further <br />suggested that the Commissioners announce the winning artists at <br />the ne t Commission meeting, February 15. <br />Mr. Lennon said we are recommending from staff position to delay <br />the award of the three commissions for $7,000 and the three <br />honorable commissions until the sculptors come back to us ad- <br />vising the three pieces can be built within the firm price. The <br />action requested from the Commission is to delay the announce- <br />ment, tr we required it be specified that the pieces can be <br />built the amount. <br />!I&IE <br />RIVER BEND PLAZA <br />RECOMMENDATION ADOPTED, <br />R -66 <br />SCULPTURE COMPETITION <br />AWARD DEFERRED FOR <br />2 -15 -74 MEETING, R -66 <br />
