7. PROGRESS REPORTS (Cont'd
c. Avon Theatre Properties: Mr. Ed Bauer submitted a
written report in which he advised attorney Joseph
Anderson will be drafting the offer to purchase
agreement for the property. His clients reside in
Detroit and Chicago and need to agree to the terms.
It will then be sent to the trustees handling the
Avon properties. The paperwork should be completed
by early next week. The contractor bids will have
to be updated. He hesitated thinking with all of
our construction activity in that block he didn't
think we wanted additional workers cluttering the
Avon Theatre site. We notified him that this would
not interfere with the Plaza construction schedules.
This is a private transaction. Our involvement is
only the recommendations we have made on what is
needed to bring the property up to standard.
About three months ago we got four bids for this work.
Everyone agrees the work should be done. The tenant
with the ultimate owners of the property are willing
to do the work. The delay has been a matter of get-
ting the prospective buyers together for the purchase
agreement.
AVON THEATRE PROPERTIES
d. Sign Committee Report: Ed Bauer advised the Sign Com- SIGN COMMITTEE REPORT
mittee met on Thursday, January 24, to review the canopy
sign construction proposed for the River Bend Plaza side-
walk system. The interior illiminated sign box will be
fabricated locally by North American Signs, formerly
known as South Bend Neon. The panel face will appear as
one continuous piece of metal to be punctuated with
tenant names and backed up with white Plexiglas. One
continuous fluorescent tube will internally light the
tenant names. The canopies will be wired so that addi-
tional individual signs can be installed under the canopy
perpendicular to the business store fronts.
The Sign Committee also reviewed a request from Dan Akin,
Clyde E. Williams & Associates, Inc., to remove the pro-
jecting signs that are in conflict with the canopy system,
which are: Baer's Home Outfitters; Necci Sewing Center;
Drumville/Guitarland; Carson Shoes; and Macri Jewelers
(revolving clock). Two of the signs are to be removed
and stored with the exception of the Macri's clock which
is to be re- installed and raised 24 inches. This work
will be done by the North American Sign Company and at
Redevelopment cost for this project. The Necci and
Drumville signs are our property and are to be scrapped.
Ed advised he has only received one bid to date and is
waiti.ng,for another which has been promised for submission
next week. The two stored signs will be reusable when
the canopy system goes up for new use. Mr. Bauer re-
- 11 -
