7. PROGRESS REPORTS
a. Update on R -66 Mr Lennon advised basically we would R -66 PROJECT UPDATE
like also to publicly sell more land and we are work-
ing at this diligently.
Currently, Robertson's have a display of our downtown
model, civic center model and other items in one of
their windows for public viewing. We are also promot-
ing other area displays to develop concept of what is
happening to our downtown area for public involvement.
The River Bend Plaza will be coming to conclusion and
the merchants have a positive outlook.
The weekly construction schedule has been mailed, with
a copy in the Commissioner's packet.
b. Update on River Bend Plaza Project: Mr. Dan Akin, RIVER BEND PLAZA
our Engineering Consultant with Clyde E. Williams & UPDATE, R -66
Associates, Inc., gave an update on the River Bend
Plaza Project.
Mr. Akin advised the Jefferson Street Alternate is
not included in the May 31 deadline, which is the
target date for the Plaza. The Commissioners said
they are aware of this portion being scheduled for a
later date.
Mr. Akin gave a breakdown of the schedules for the
canopies and the installation of the wiring- -this
will be operational at that time- -the pools with
the base concrete and side paving around, with the
lights, plumbing, etc., done, with the exception
of the architectural pieces which possibly may not
be completed by the architects at that time. He de-
fined some of the variables but some of the delays
discussed may be a matter of speculation at this
point. Ed Werley from Environmental Planning and
Design had been here from Pittsburgh, Pa., and re-
viewed all materials and /or supplies, as well as
construction. Concern was the hold -up with the
truck situation on deliveries.
Discussion also followed on the black rock in the
specs. Commissioner Wade emphasized for Dan Akin
to put the pressure on and to start "raising Cain"
if he has to, but to see that the job is done. Spring
is around the corner and the contractors will have many
jobs going and everyone will want their work done at
once. President Helmen reiterated that we do not want
the May 31 date to be a farce, and to stay on their
back. Dan Akin was commended for the pregress he has
made and to keep on top of the schedule.
- 10 -
