I. <br />sess <br />have <br />Sout <br />publ <br />NEW- BUSINESS <br />a. Service Courts: Mr. Lennon advised in the earlier <br />on a Commission vote had been taken on this item to <br />the item printed in time for today's edition in The <br />i Bend Tribune. This must now be on record in the <br />c session of the Commission meeting. <br />We have been requested by the Downtown Council, many of <br />the retailers, entertainment field, many financial banking <br />people, as well as governmental people, to name three (3) <br />Sery ce Courts in honor of dedicated individuals named. <br />This item is being inserted in the Agenda and was kept <br />from the Commissioners to have it as a surprise in this <br />meet ng. This has the full approval of the Mayor, and <br />Mr, Lennon said, "with the full approval of the Commission, <br />I am sure." This will go before the Board of Works, on <br />December 19, 1973, for official action for the naming of <br />thes Courts. The Courts, as designated, are: <br />1) HELMEN COURT: <br />This is the Service Court behind the St. <br />Joseph Bank building, on the east side <br />of Michigan Street, running between Wayne <br />Street and Jefferson Boulevard, named <br />after Mr. Fred J. Helmen, Honorary Chair- <br />man of St. Joseph Bank & Trust Company <br />and President of this Redevelopment Com- <br />mission. <br />2) RASMUSSEN COURT: <br />This is the Service Court west of Michi- <br />gan Street, between Jefferson Boulevard <br />and Washington Street, to be named in <br />honor of the late Mr. Bill Rasmussen, <br />who had been a long -time advocate of <br />the Downtown Urban Renewal Project, <br />a member of the Urban Design Review <br />Committee, as well as a prominent South <br />Bend business and civic leader. <br />3) WOODWARD COURT: <br />This is the Service Court west of Michi- <br />gan Street, between Washington and Colfax <br />Streets, to be named after Mr. F. V. Wood- <br />ward, downtown retailer and active in our <br />community. <br />Mr. C enney, Vice President of the Commission, was requested <br />to temporarily chair the meeting to take the formal vote for <br />the record, which he accepted. Mr. Chenney requested the <br />Commission's pleasure on the name of the Service Drives as <br />state( <br />-9- <br />SERVICE COURTS <br />APPROVED TO BE <br />NAMED: <br />1) HELMEN COURT <br />2) RASMUSSEN COURT <br />3) WOODWARD COURT <br />
