4. NEW BUSINESS (Cont'd)
between the contractor and all subcontractors and
Contract No. 5, acceptance of the Jefferson Street
Alternate, and final approval by our consulting
engineer.
Rev. Williams: I second the motion.
Mr. Helmen: Again I will poll the individual members:
Mr. Wiggins: Aye
Mr. Wade: Aye
Mr. Chenney: Aye
Rev. Williams: Aye
and myself (President Helmen): Aye.
Mr. Helmen: All the Commissioners unanimously voted for the
motion. Nays -- None -- Motion carried.
The winner of the contract is here, and I under -
- stand that at a later date they will meet with
the Commission. Mr. Hickey, you have anything
to say at this point?
Mr. Hickey: At this time, I don't feel I have anything to
say. I will wait until we meet with the engineers
and the Redevelopment Department in. developing the
work schedule and I am withholding comments at
this time.
I want to thank the Board at this time and want
to carry out as expeditiously as possible and
with as little inconvenience to the Downtown
merchants as we possibly can.
Mrs Allen: What's the amount of the contracts?
Mr. Lennon: $2,815,348.00 on the General Contract; on the
Landscape Contract: $206,474.00. That brings
it to the total of: $3,021,822.00.
Mr. Wiggins: There are some alternates in here, subject to
negotiations that is vital.
Mrs. Allen: Eliminate some of the wells. Paraplegics will
have to go down and bridges you climb up to sit,
committed now. Total wrong as you have it. I
finally managed to find the blueprints for the
Mall. You have little wells - -you go down five
steps to go down and sit. I don't know how many
fountains there are. Two bridges where you climb
up four or five steps. I can see no necessity for
those things and certainly not when you are consider-
ing curbs for Paraplegics
-4
