They have <br />relocated and are now operating at 301 South Michigan Street. <br />there are thirteen active leases in operation as of February <br />28th. The total monthly rent amounts due from all tenants <br />is: 7,124.51. <br />We re (eived a check in amount of $300.00 past -due rent from <br />one a (count, bringing that account to a current status. <br />c. Washington, D. C. Conference: Mr. Lennon submitted WASHINGTON, D. C. <br />a written report on this Conference held March 4 through 6, CONFERENCE <br />1973, relative to the pending Legislation on Community Develop- <br />ment as it relates to the Department of Redevelopment status <br />and F deral Funding. The pending legislation is going to be <br />calle the "Better Communities Act of 1972" and will be replac- <br />ing t e presently called Special Community Development Revenue <br />Shari q Act. <br />The Community Development Block Grant entails the combining of <br />Urban Renewal, Open Spaces, Model Cities, Neighborhood Develop- <br />ment Programs, Downtown Renewal Programs, etc. It is extremely <br />important that we prepare outselves for special revenue - sharing; <br />i.e., the responsibilities attendant to community development <br />block grants. The objective of these grants as outlined by the <br />President will be the consolidation of existing HUD categorical <br />grants into a single community development block grant for each <br />affec d municipality. <br />8. OTHER MATTERS <br />a. Downtown Pedestrian Mall: President Helmen read the <br />letter received from the Common Council to the Redevelopment <br />Commis ion dated March 12, 1973, relative to the Mall, in its <br />entire _v. <br />A leng by discussion was held and the Executive Director was <br />instru ted to notify the Common Council of the following items: <br />1) We certainly are willing to again meet with you <br />and discuss your concerns and attempt to answer <br />the questions that you have proposed. <br />2) The Commission also believes that the entire con- <br />cept of the Pedestrian Mall, including your con- <br />cerns, have been discussed on numerous occasions <br />with all segments of the community.
