7. PROGRESS REPORTS (Cont'd
The
alternatives are:
1) Corner of Lafayette and Washington - -if
they want it up by November 11th, or
2) Wait a year or so and have the monument
included in the Cultural Center.
The voterans preference is the second.
Mr. P tersen said at the time the monument was erected,
June , 1903, it was the tallest point in South Bend.
With zll the tall buildings in the area now, the Monu-
ment Erected on the North side of the Court House Lawn
would make it look like the "back yard of a retired
Admir 1."
Presi ent Helmen said the Redevelopment Commission sold
land lo the County for the Monument site. The comments
in ThE South Bend Tribune are speculative, and in no way
can the Redevelopment Commission donate land in the Cultural
Centey site being requested. It is part of our project cost.
If we were to donate that part of the project cost, it would
have 4o come from tax funds, and it would be unfair to burden
the t xpayers with this added cost.
The County Commissioners have stated the Monument will be
placec on the Court House lawn and it is not in order for
the Redevelopment Commission to recommend where it will be
place c. The County has purchased the land.
Mr. Wiggins said the Commission has some grounds on what
they may not do with that land, but has no say in what
they must do with it. This is in the province with the
Count Commissioners in what they will do.
b. Business Relocation, R -66: Mr. John A. Kotzen-
mache , Business Relocation Officer, submitted July's
written activities report showing the following business
relocation claims paid:
ving Expenses:
Service Printers, Inc. $ 2,500.00
Indiana Typesetting Corporation 7,351.00
Sun Litho Plate Corporation 8,792.00
Iternate Payments:
Joy Bar (Review Claim) 7,000.00
Joer's Restaurant 10,000.00
Total Relocation Payments $35,643.00
BUSINESS RELOCATION,
R -66
