NIEW BUSINESS (Cont'd
Mr. Taylor said we have been requested by the Model
Neighborhood Planning Agency to be the administrative
agency for the clearance of this area for industrial
development. It will be total clearance.
Four members of the Merry Avenue Citizens Participation
Committee present were introduced by Mr. Taylor; Mr.
Huey S hoby, President; Mr. Hollis Hughes, Model Cities;
Mrs. L venia Cain, Housing Committee, and Miss Norma
Ganowa , Neighborhood Association, with Model Cities.
Mr. Hollis Hughes said on behalf of the Model Cities
Planning Agency that Merry Avenue represents the major
project of the third year plan. Yesterday HUD approved
the Model Cities Plan with a great deal of praise for
the planning process they went through in interrelated-
ness of problems. The Committees who worked together
to for ulate the project on Merry Avenue were:
1) Housing Committee
2) Fiscal Committee
3) Economic Committee
4) Manpower Committee
Mr. Sc by said all the residents were in favor of the
project and voted for it. One business, Scott's Liquor
Store, was upset and voted against it. Shorty Pappa's
Bar is also located in the area. The proposed develop-
ment is for light industrial uses. This will eliminate
a lot f substandard and blighted properties - -some have
been b rued out.
Mr. Wigins moved for the adoption of Resolution No. 406,
second d by Mr. Wade, and unanimously carried.
Mr. Ba be said in talking with HUD in Indianapolis on
this, me will submit this project as a formal Renewal
Project, Part I and Part II application showing no
Federal assistance. The entire project cost will be
paid out of Model Cities supplemental funds. This
project then will be a credit towards other projects in
that area. There will be Federal assistance through
Model Cities for the relocation of the people, but no
Federal assistance for the project cost.
Three neetings have been held with the PAC Committee- -
the last held Tuesday night; the relocation benefits
were explained. The residents are all aware of the
relocation. Resources will be the largest item.
't
