Williams, <br />two staff members were authorized to attend the above <br />meeti g. Motion <br />ously carried. <br />:OGRESS REPORTS <br />a Kalamazoo, Michigan Mall: Mr. Taylor reported <br />on thE trip made to Kalamazoo, which he attended along <br />with Messrs. Miller and Slabaugh. Several members of <br />the Downtown Council were on the trip which was en- <br />lightening and informative. <br />Mr. S abaugh said on the landscaping of the Mall and <br />the b autification, he learned something on a techni- <br />cal vine regarding their treatment of under -walk vaults. <br />I wou d like to request permission to investigate all <br />vault and recommend the necessary treatment. Vault <br />recon truction should be accomplished this year so as <br />not t interfere with the Mall construction in 1973. <br />Mr. Taylor said, in the past, he had written a letter, <br />as City Engineer, to the Redevelopment Commission, making <br />a recommendation as.to handling of vaults under side- <br />walks The next step would be for us to develop a Re- <br />solution on the treatment of vaults and have that adopted <br />by thE Board of Works and Commission at a future meeting. <br />Presi ent Helmen said the suggestion made by Mr. Slabaugh <br />was ar excellent one. <br />Mr. Taylor said that Kalamazoo required the people to <br />put in a vault roughly 4" below finished grade so that <br />vaults would not interfere with the construction of the <br />Mall.
