3. <br />NEW BUSINESS (Cont'd) <br />It was suggested to hire additional staff,.or have by <br />agreement one responsible for the i- nspections of.these <br />Downtown buildings to be rehabilitated. Mr. Hammer- <br />schmidt recommended hiring someone very competent for <br />legal reasons. Mr. Mathews suggested Mr. James McCarthy. <br />Mr. Hammerschmidt advised he did not believe we would <br />get into any legal probl,ems:;if. we do some of these <br />thi gs while going to the owners with friendly persua- <br />sio . <br />On motion by Mr. Helmen, it was recommended Mr—James <br />McCarthy be hired on a consulting basis and add a,., <br />staff member in the office to administer rehabilitation. <br />This was passed by unanimous consent. <br />A s t of standard procedures will be given the owners <br />in rder to avoid litigation and to assure good public <br />relations. It was recommended that two more architects <br />be fired to evaluate the buildings in depth, at an hourly <br />rat E, bringing their findings back to the Urban Design <br />Rev ew Committee. This motion was passed by unanimous <br />con lent. <br />Mr. Hammerschmidt requested Mr. Barbe and Mr.;Bill Hammes, <br />fro his office, work together in assembling the proper <br />edures. <br />The Urban Design Review Committee will now consist of the <br />fol bowing: <br />CONSULTANT <br />RECOMMENDED TO <br />BE.HIRED, AND ONE <br />ADDITIONAL STAFF <br />MEMBER <br />TWO ARCHITECTS <br />APPROVED, HOURLY <br />RATE <br />Mr. Joseph Mathews, Mathews,.Purucker & Associates, Inc. <br />Mr. Forrest R.
