7. PROGRESS REPORT (Cont'd <br />3) Central Downtown Urban Renewal Project, 3) CENTRAL *DOWNTOWN, <br />R -66: Four families have moved from the area; one R -66 <br />family bought a home in Goshen and a House Replace- <br />ment Payment is being processed, one renting a home <br />in Mish waka seeking 235 housing, one family relo- <br />cated i to Leased Housing, remaining family purchased <br />a home in South Bend. All are eligible for House Re- <br />placeme t Payments. <br />Rev. Kirk also stated the elderly are showing an <br />interest in the Public Housing P- roject, on Western <br />Avenue. President Wilhelm asked if most of the fami- <br />lies are qualified for the Public-Housing. Rev. Kirk <br />said they are. <br />4) City -Wide Relocation: Rev. Kirk stated 4) CITY -WIDE RELOCA- <br />35 families have been referred to this Department TION <br />through the Substandard Building Department and eight <br />of thes have been relocated in public or leased hous- <br />ing. <br />Mr. Helrren asked if there are any better results from <br />The Housing Authority'since our joint meeting? Mr. <br />Helmen elso apprised that Mr. Jesse L. Dickinson, Exe- <br />cutive Director of The Housing Authority, has asked <br />specifi ally that we let him know what we need in hous- <br />ing, an asked Rev. Kirk if he is following through? <br />Rev. Ki k said they are still in need of larger homes. <br />He stat d he meets with Mr. Dickinson once a week. <br />c. Downtown Negotiations: Mr. Hubert M. Weaver, DOWNTOWN NEGOTIATIONS <br />downtown negotiator, apprised 20 Option Agreements <br />have been signed for an approximate amount of $650,000, <br />and presently are waiting for concurred -in values on <br />additional parcels from HUD. <br />d. Post Office Site: Mr. Bellinger apprised POST OFFICE SITE <br />that he received a phone call from Mr. Warner of <br />the Post Office Department, in Washington, D. C., and <br />they arE exploring the possibility of adding an acre <br />or two cn the site selected. This would be possible <br />if we p rmit the re- alignment of the new street west <br />to intersect with Carroll Street. This street align- <br />ment was proposed at one time, but the Post Office <br />reconsi ered and decided ten (10) acres were large <br />enough. <br />Mr. HeliTen asked if the Post Office Department will <br />be acquiring this property for the same price as be- <br />fore, Mr. Bellinger stated the price would be the <br />same. <br />an <br />
