ber 27 and 28. On motion by Mr. Chenney, seconded
by Mr. Kompar, the request for two staff members to
attend the Milwaukee meeting was granted.
6.
TS:
a. Relocation Progress Report Submitted by
Oliver J. Scott: Mr. Bellinger apprised the Com-
mission that relocation activities involving resi-
dents of the Industrial Expansion Project was moving
along, satisfactorily. Private sales and rental
housing have provided housing for 13 displaced.
family s to date. Public housing and leased housing
are al 3o being utilized. Relocation progress, as
eviden ed by Oliver Scott's report, is encouraging,
which Should not detract from the fact that addi-
tional low -cost housing is badly needed. In the
past tVo weeks, the Redevelopment Department has
relocated one additional family from the LaSalle
Park Urban Renewal Project -- leaving approximately
seven families on the current relocation work load.
A total of 18 families have been relocated from the
Industrial Expansion Project., Mrs. Curtis stated
that she was impressed with the relocation report
presented this morning by Mr. Scott, as it demon-
strates that the families being displaced from the
Industrial Expansion Project are finding housing
opport nities in several sections of the community.
Chairman Wiggins stated that this Commission is
called upon from time to time to take the necessary
action in alleviating the problems found in sub -
standa d neighborhoods. If the action this Com-
mission takes is successful, it solves the problem
of removing slum dwellings. It is, for the interim,
a loss in the net housing resources for the com.
munity. The problem is compounded by the fact that
the displaced families, many times, have inadequate
incomes to pay for good housing. Our community has
the responsibility to create housing to solve the
bulk of the problems for the low - income groups.
The-City Council, the Greater South Bend Housing
Corporation, the local Housing Authority, the Area
Planni g Commission and the Redevelopment Commission
must work together to solve the housing dilemma.
b.
Part II
Downtou
dy for
vember.
very ne
HUD off
Mr. Bellinger apprised the Commission that
of the Loan and Grant Application for the
Urban Renewal Project, R -66 should be rea-
ubmittal to the HUD office sometime in No-
The Redevelopment Department will, in the
r future, request authorization from the
ce to begin negotiating the purchase of pro-
- 8 -
RELOCATION PRO-
GRESS REPORT
