South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -November 2, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Public Hearing
(7) continued...
that we'd be opposed to on our covenant.
We look forward to working with city staff
as far as developing a plan for revitalization
of that property.
MR. EAGAN: I would respectfully suggest
that you didn't answer my question. That
was, what is to be the long range economic
impact of all this money in South Bend?
MR. DOWNES: Mr. Eagan, I think the
answer will lie when we get the plan from
HOK.
MR. EAGAN: I would suggest that that is an
important question.
MR. DOWNES: I would agree.
MS. MAHONEY: I think part of the way
you revitalize a city and get it going
economically is to have the people there
encouraged and have the people there proud
of it. That's part of it. That's just a very
ugly part. It was old, industrial. If you were
to integrate that, I think people who live on
that side, the west siders, should not feel like
a blighted area. They should feel proud of
the area. I think that case needs to be made
to the whole City of South Bend because it's
going to bring up the whole city, not just the
area.
MR. JACK SEIFER: Michiana Lock and
Key, 306 W. Monroe St. I'm on the east side
of the Cove. I'm just making my presence
55
