South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -November 2, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Public Hearing
(7) continued...
MR. EAGAN: Well, it was taxpayer money.
MR. RONALD DOERS: I own a house, an
historical house, and I acquired it from my
folks in 1956. I also own the corner lot, a
parking lot at 226 William St. At the time,
1956, I tore down three old dilapidated
apartment houses to rent out as a parking lot
to the unemployment office. I' m sitting
here, paying all these taxes, and wondering
what's going to happen. So, I was looking
forward to something like that, that that
whole area would be developed, then the
people that owned all these vacant lots could
get an income and pay the taxes.
MR. PAUL HAYDEN: Staff at Historic
Landmarks Foundation. I just wanted to
mention that we had a controlling interest in
the property, that's the synagogue, on
William St. We were part of that building
about five or six years ago. We still have a
protective covenant on the property, so we're
very pleased to hear that you folks are
considering an acquisition, but not
considering a demolition. That's something
54
