South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -November 2, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Public Hearing
(7) continued...
I'll get my points off quickly. Yes, we have
had a house on the market. You're right,
Jeff. Jeff helped us get the house on the
market, because it had been moved to the
property where it is now. At that time it had
been empty for a year and a half or so and we
were the people who came along and decided
to do a business venture in that particular
place. So, we began. We worked it for
twenty years. We still have it open. We
have managers who are now doing the work
for us, so that we are able to accommodate
all of our aches and pains. My concern is
this. The list that I see, from one to twenty-
one, does not have the Queen Anne Inn
listed. Is that an indication that we may still
continue to be a business and we need to
function as such? Or what is the actual hope
for us at this particular point? This was one
of our very big concerns, because we didn't
see it. And we thought, well, maybe they've
forgotten. But we knew that probably wasn't
right. So we decided we would come and
find out. Second, we are an historical home.
We are on an historic register. Therefore, I
think it would take a hard look to see what
we would need to do with this historic home.
It's given lots of privileges. People come
and look at it and ooh and aah. And we're
very pleased that we have been able to
preserve this for the community. We have
done a lot of work, preserving the home for
the community. So, I'm concerned about it
as an historical venture. But I'm also
concerned that we have tried to be a part of
the downtown itself. I have my heart there,
50
