South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -November 2, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Public Hearing
(7) continued...
public has an opportunity for meaningful
participation. So, I'd be interested in some
reaction from the Commissioners concerning
the nature of the public process that will be
gone through for the development of this
area. I've read the contract with HOK and it
doesn't explicitly call for public participation
in the development of that plan. So, I'm
wondering how that's going to happen. Will
HOK be the full plan for the whole
development of the downtown area? If not,
how will that proceed and how will the
public have meaningful input? When I say
"meaningful" what I mean is, not only will
the public have the opportunity to say what
they want, but to have people's concerns
meaningfully addressed. I think that means
when we have public hearings we want to
have them open to the public, not only by
invitation to certain people, but an
opportunity for everybody to participate.
MS. PAULINE MEDHURST: From the
Queen Anne Inn, 420 West Washington. I'm
here to talk about our business, in particular.
But I'm also trying to talk about the history
of it. We've been open twenty years. We
were the first bed and breakfast to open and
we were the first one to be in the whole
county. So, it's kind of hard for us to have
nothing but feelings for what we've been
doing. I want to express some of those. I
appreciate the fact that you've allowed us to
come. And, I' m very sorry to stand with my
back to some, but I have a cane and it doesn't
go very far, and I don't go very fast either.
49
