South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Rescheduled Regular Meeting -November 2, 2007 <br />6. NEW BUSINESS <br />A. Public Hearing <br />(7) continued... <br />makes sense at this time. I would encourage <br />your favorable action. <br />MR. BAUMGARTNER: Just to all the <br />homeowners in the area, we're going to have <br />to make sure we get involved. Make sure <br />you contact us, and we're concerned with <br />what happens there. So, you'll see us, I <br />suppose. <br />MR. MARTY WOLFSON: Member of the <br />Community Forum for Economic <br />Development. I want to raise a slightly <br />different issue than has been addressed thus <br />far. There's obviously a lot of concern from <br />people who own property in the area about <br />what will happen. I'm fully supportive of the <br />city's efforts to develop the downtown. I <br />think it's really of interest to everybody who <br />lives in South Bend and, indeed, the region, <br />that we develop the downtown into a vibrant <br />economic area. So, I think it's also <br />understandable that the city would want to be <br />able to approach this in a unified way. <br />Having said that, one thing I' m concerned <br />about is, what is the nature of the plan that <br />will be developed for the downtown area? <br />We've heard a lot of things thrown out, the <br />entrance to the Coveleski, Bill referred to <br />residential infill, mixed use. I'm concerned <br />about the public participation and input into <br />the development of this plan and what it will <br />look like. The Community Forum has taken <br />as one of its central objectives to try to make <br />the economic development process one that's <br />transparent to the public and in which the <br />48 <br />
