<br />FIRE DEPARTMENT
<br />APPROVE PROMOTION TO THE RANK OF CAPTAIN IN SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT -
<br />PATRICK KOTTKAMP
<br />In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Steve Cox stated that the South Bend Fire Department has a
<br />vacancy for a Captain in the Fire Suppression Division. In accordance with the promotion policy
<br />established by the South Bend Fire Department and Local 362, Chief Cox recommended that
<br />Firefighter 1St Class Patrick Kottkamp be promoted to the rank of Captain in Special Assignment
<br />effective, July 18, 2012, for a probationary period of one year. Chief Cox stated that Firefighter
<br />Kottkamp was appointed to the South Bend Fire Department on October 25, 2000 and has proven his
<br />leadership skills and ability in fire suppression. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Miller,
<br />seconded by Mr. Taylor and carried, the promotion to Captain in Special Assignment on
<br />probationary status was approved.
<br />APPROVE PROMOTION TO THE RANK OF CAPTAIN IN SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT — RYAN
<br />ORT
<br />In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Steve Cox stated that the South Bend Fire Department has a
<br />vacancy for a Captain in the Fire Suppression Division. In accordance with the promotion policy
<br />established by the South Bend Fire Department and Local 362, Chief Cox recommended that
<br />Firefighter 1St Class Ryan Ort be promoted to the rank of Captain in Special Assignment effective,
<br />July 18, 2012, for a probationary period of one year. Chief Cox stated that Firefighter Ort was
<br />appointed to the South Bend Fire Department on April 19, 2000 and has proven his leadership skills
<br />and ability in fire suppression. Therefore, .upon a motion made by Mr. Miller, seconded by Mr.
<br />Taylor and carried, the promotion to Captain in Special Assignment on probationary status was
<br />approved.
<br />PRESENTATION OF BADGES
<br />Mayor Pete Buttigieg was present and pinned the badges on newly appointed Captains in Special
<br />Assignment Patrick Kottkamp and Ryan Ort. The Board joined Mayor Buttigieg in congratulating
<br />them and wishing them well.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT
<br />APPROVE PERMANENT PROMOTION — JOSEPH GALEA
<br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Hurley recommended that Sergeant Joseph Galea be promoted
<br />permanently to the rank of Lieutenant in the Uniform Division, 1St Detail, effective July 20, 2012.
<br />Chief Hurley stated in his letter that Sergeant Galea was placed in a special assignment as a
<br />Lieutenant in the Uniform Division on July 20, 2011. His supervisor, Captain Terry Young, made an
<br />evaluation of the progress of Sergeant Galea and recommended a permanent promotion based on his
<br />progress. Upon a motion made by Mr. Collins, seconded by Mr. Miller and carried, the
<br />recommended permanent promotion of Sergeant Galea, PN #495, no longer in Special Assignment,
<br />was approved effective July 20, 2012.
<br />APPROVE PERMANENT PROMOTION — TIMOTHY LANCASTER
<br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Hurley recommended that Sergeant Timothy Lancaster be
<br />promoted permanently to the rank of Lieutenant in the Uniform Division, 3`d Detail, effective July
<br />20, 2012. Chief Hurley stated in his letter that Sergeant Lancaster was placed in a special assignment
<br />as a Lieutenant in the Uniform Division on July 20, 2011. His supervisor, Captain Jeff Rynearson,
<br />made an evaluation of the progress of Sergeant Lancaster and recommended a permanent promotion
<br />based on his progress. Upon a motion made by Mr. Collins, seconded by Mr. Miller and carried, the
<br />recommended permanent promotion of Sergeant Lancaster, PN #2017, no longer in Special
<br />Assignment was approved effective July 20, 2012.
<br />ACCEPT MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS
<br />President Cottrell stated the Board would accept the Minutes of the Public Agenda Session,
<br />Executive Session, and Regular Meetings of the Board held on June 20, 2012 and the Special
<br />Meeting of June 27, 2012 as presented.
