<br />WHEtEAS, theBoard of Public Works has received complaints from. the
<br />Fire Department relative to the condition as a fire hazard of the property owned
<br />by George H. Vernon C. Hastings and Burdett Hastings Norton described as a one
<br />story frame shed in the rear of 214 Worth Michigan Street on Lot 76 Original Plat
<br />of South Bend.
<br />AND: WHEREAS ` the Board of Public Works has Ordered the building,
<br />Commissioner. ,to ,take .up *4thot'herewners of this building the question of tearing
<br />dawn the same, apd Whereas the Building Commissioner that they notified the owners
<br />to repair, tear down or remove said structure,wbich notice has been served on said
<br />owners in compliance with the Building Code, and no effort has been made by the
<br />owners of saild building to remedy the condition.
<br />NOW THEREFORE,
<br />Bel it resolved by the Board of Public Works that theBuilding Com-
<br />missioner is herby ordered to emply such persons as may be necessary to causo
<br />such building `tol be torn down and to keep an accurate account of the actual expense
<br />incurred and file an accurate statement thereof and descr iptlen of the reel estate
<br />on which said buildigg was located, with the City Controller of the City or, South
<br />Bend, in compliance with Section 17 Paragraph 1294 of the Ordinance 1918 adopted
<br />December 21st., 1915.
<br />And said Building Commissioner is further ordered to make due report
<br />of_ his .proceedings under this order to the Boar.

<br />Mr. W. D. Teeple with Mr. Head of the State Fire Marshal 'office
<br />appeared before the Board in regard to the matter of the Hastings building. Mr.
<br />Headadvised the Beard that he would take this matter matter up with Mr. Hastings
<br />through his department, also Board instructed Mr. Teeple to pr®cede with their
<br />orders in regard to the same.
<br />The follo*Ug guarantee bonds were approved by the Board,
<br />GUARANTEE BOND.
<br />KNOW ALL'MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That the Western Construction Company
<br />as Principal, and the Aetna Caseualty & Surety Company, as surety, are hereby held
<br />and bound to the City of South Bend,, Indiana, in the sum of One Thousand Three
<br />Hundred seventy-six ($1,376.00) Dollars, for the paymnAt of which Drell and truly to
<br />be made, they jointly and severally bind themselves , their heirs, executors, admin-
<br />istrators and assigns by these presentsy,
<br />The cond it ions of the above obl igat ions are such, that whereas the
<br />above bound The..Western.Censtruction Company has completed the work under the
<br />contract for the paving of Jefferson Boulevard from the East line of Michigan
<br />Street to the west line of Bridge over the St. Joseph River, in the City of South
<br />Bend, Indiana,.under _Improvement Resolution No. 564, adopted by the Department of•
<br />Public Works, of the City of South Bend on the l9th. , day of February ,1918.
<br />NOW if the above bound The Western Construction Company shall for -&
<br />period of five (5) years from date maintain such pavement, and during duch time
<br />shall make all repairs which may be necessary from :any ratting, crumbling or dis-
<br />intregration of the materials, or which are caused by any imperfection in workmansh6p
<br />and shall strictly observe and abide by Seetione 41 to 45 „ inclusive, of the Genera
<br />Specifications, (Form C.) for street improvements, hereto attached , adopted by the
<br />Department of Public Works of the City of South Bend, and shall fulfill all the
<br />conditions and stipul tions therein contained, these obligations shill be void other-
<br />wise to remain in full force and effect.
