GUMWOOD RECONSTRUCTION,
ST: JOSEPH COUNTY
Gumwood Road was a large-scale reconstruction project with
several challenges. Despite the complexities, our team was able t,
work with the contractor, the County, and other stakeholders to
foresee potential problems and adjust schedules and the order of
work to eliminate or mitigate them. Ouir tearn completed the
Project on time and under (budget.
PROJECTINCLUDED
» 2 miles of added travel lanes
» Converting 2 conventional intersections to roundabouts
» New storm sewers, retention basins, & sanitary sewer lines
» Lighting, sidewalks, & landscaping
» Upgrading driveways & curb ramps to meet ADA standards
» Adding a multi -use path
R 300 SOU
rl,,,I
CASS COUNTY
?mbers of our team managed, designed, and performed
nstruction engineering for this federal -aid LPA project to
;onstruct CR 300 S from 1,590 feet west of SR 25 to the railroad
)ssing. The project started as a result of the Hoosier Heartland
iustrial Corridor Improvement project, which changed access to
300 S and CR 325 W where Indiana's largest Ethanol Plant is
sated.
INSTRUCTION ELEMENTS
e improvements included construction on a new alignment that
).35 miles in length, two 12-foot lanes in each direction with a
-foot-wide north outside shoulder, and a 6-foot-wide south side
oulder.
CR 300 S and CR 325 W pavement areas include 9 inches of
urete pavement over Type I subgrade treatment.
!AINAGE & UTILITYRELOCATION L T
vrior to construction, poor soils were encountered along 1300 feet
of CR 300 S, so the project was surcharged to consolidate the existing soils. The drainage along CR 300 S and CR 325 W outlets to
roadside ditches that drain to a new detention basin at the southeast corner of CR 300 S and CR 325 W. The basin has a release rate that
drains into a ditch along CR 325 W. A new active rail warning device was also installed at the railroad crossing.
