ARTICLE I <br />RECOGNITION AND SCOPE OF AGREEMENT <br />Section 1. Geographic Coverage: The geographic area covered by Local Union No. 142 as <br />granted by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Joint Council No. 25 Area and hereby recognized <br />by this agreement is Lake and Porter County in the State of Indiana and Calumet City, Illinois. <br />Section 2. Recognition: The Employer recognizes the Union as the sole and exclusive <br />bargaining agent with respect to rates of pay, hours of work, and all other conditions of employment for all <br />employees covered by this Agreement. <br />Section 3. Bargaining Unit: Employees covered by this Agreement are all employees in the <br />classifications of work covered by this Agreement, employed by the Employers in the contract territory <br />and engaged in the work described in Section 4 hereof. <br />Section 4. Work Covered: Jurisdiction: All work covered by the terms of this Agreement shall <br />be performed exclusively by those classifications of employees specified in the Agreement. This <br />Agreement shall apply to employees in the classifications herein set forth in the performance of work <br />involved in the following operations, but not limited to: <br />(a) Highway Construction shall include trucking, towing, pulling, and hauling for construction, <br />modifications, demolition, additions or repairs of roads and streets and construction thereto; <br />alleys, guard rails, landscaping, fences, parkways, parking areas, parking lots, airports, bridle <br />paths. recreational paths, athletic fields, golf courses, highway bridges, elevated highways, <br />grade separations involving highways; sewers, water lines and underground utilities including <br />fiber optic lines and pipelines incidental to the above defined construction. Airports, as used <br />herein, shall mean airports and flight strips, grading, drainage, and paving exclusive of <br />building construction. <br />(b) Heavy Construction shall include trucking, towing, pulling, and hauling for construction, or <br />modification, demolition, or addition, or repair of railroad construction projects, railroad <br />bridges, grade separations involving railroads, piledriving, piers, abutments, retaining walls, <br />viaducts, pedestrian tunnels, subways, elevated tracks, underground utility lines, fiber optic <br />lines, pipelines, drainage projects, sanitation projects, sewerage disposal plant projects, <br />aquaducts, irrigation projects, flood control projects, reclamation projects, reservoirs, sewers, <br />water lines, water supply projects landfill sites, water power development, hydroelectric <br />development, transmission lines, locks, dams, dikes, levees, revetments, channels, channel <br />cutoffs, intakes. dredging projects, jetties, breakwaters, docks, and harbors. <br />Section 6. All work covered by this Agreement is specifically the operation of vehicles, group <br />positions and equipment listed in Article 11 of this Agreement and shall be performed exclusively by those <br />classifications of employees specified in Article 11. <br />Section 6. Work Outside the Scope of this Agreement:_This Agreement incorporates the <br />terms of the Local 142]Northwest Indiana Contractors Association Agreement for "Building" work only as <br />defined in that agreement ("1421NWI"). For those members of the Four County Highway Contractors <br />Group who have previously signed the 1421NWI Collective Bargaining Agreement, or have otherwise <br />become bound to the 142/NWI Agreement for purposes of "Building" work only, it is recognized that such <br />Contractors are bound to the "Building" portion of the local 1421NWI Agreement only, and not through the <br />instant Four County Highway Contractors Group Agreement, for purposes of 'Building' work. <br />2 <br />
