The following letter, was rec&ided read and placed on file. Board of Public Works South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: - I am sending you under separate cover sketch showing location of gas mains services and stubs on Michigan Street between La Salle Street and South Street. We expect to have all the work done south of Jefferson Blvd, by Tuesday night of next week. We will rush the work between Jefferson Blvd. and La Salle Ave. and can assure you we will get our work done and keep out of the way of the, paving contractor. We expected to get our part of the work done long ago but have been held up by the contractor installing steam lines wid by the scarity of labor. Further in order to protect ourselves against leaks it is necessary for us to complete our work, last, Any little settlement or damage to our pipes will cause leaks which will cause trouble ifto matter how small. A gas leak will not take up like a water leak and is mush more `seriour than a steam leak. Any settlement in our mains will cause traps which gradually fill up with condemnsation and finally shut off the flow of gas. We are trying to do our work in such manner as to absolutely prevent any, trouble for a good• many years to come. Mr. Andersoh ha's been on our heels continually and we have promised him to complete our work so as not to interfere'with the paving and I can assure you we will keep our promise. Yours very truly, Manager. City Engineer reported on the condition of Leeper Avenue Pavement at corner of Howard Street in regard to A. G. Mattes momplaint about the same. And the same was read and placed on file. Engineer reported that the bump in pavement on Indiana Ave. has been repaired. Street Oemmissioner reported sidewalk defective on Walnut Street at corner of Washington Avenue and the same belongs to J. Seeberger. The Board ordered that a thirty(30) day notice be sent to repair or construct a new walk. Street Commissioner made report that walk at 502 E. La Salle Avenue is sunken down and holds water and should be mired at once. Wrr.. N. Bergan owner was ordered notified to repair or construct a sidewalk hitt',bove number within thirty (30) days. Permissinn granted the'Central Union Tel. Company to set poles and ✓ anchors on various streets in she City. President.
