South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting—December 13, 2011
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
B. South Bend Central Development Area
(7) continued...
of each parking garage, and, most important
of all, committed to integrating parking into
the downtown South Bend overall experience
to make it clean, safe, hospitable and
professional for visitors, employees and
business-owners. Their proposal is $40,000
less when you exclude personnel costs and
$109,000 higher on personnel, for a net
estimated difference of just under $70,000.
2) Republic is without any doubt the most
technologically advanced parking
management company with deeper pockets,
more knowledge, resources and capabilities,
presenting some cost-saving opportunities
through the use of increased automation and
potential purchasing power, lots of national
experience in parking garage and parking lot
experience, and lots of experience
implementing and maintaining automatic
equipment in order to reduce people costs.
They also offer other consulting resources
that would enable us to better measure who is
parking where and for how long and, with
that information, better enable us to steer
parkers to the most cost-efficient locations
and maximize the use of our available
parking spaces.
Ms. Leonard-Inks noted that the interviewers
strongly recommend we offer a one year
contract to DTSB, with an option to non-
renew or extend the contract for two more
years with 90 days notice. It is time we pay
more attention to customer service than to
anything else, including cost, but feel
34
