REGULAR MEETING August 27, 2018
Mayor Buttigieg replied, Yes we have high hopes for it because we think there are a lot of other
cities with low to medium density that would be in the same boat.
Councilmember Jo M. Broden stated, And then two (2) of the three (3) are in health care as well.
That is a great sector as well. Overall, I love the reports. It is great information and thank you so
much.
Councilmebmer Regina Williams-Preston stated, I just want to thank you. It is wonderful. It is
exciting to see how you are engaging neighborhoods, particularly some of the neighborhoods that
have felt left out namely LaSalle, Kennedy Park and the Far Northwest. Thank you for that.
Councilmember Tim Scott stated, You mentioned a couple things that make us right for receiving
grants. I want to follow up on that. I think the other thing is people. Not only in South Bend but
the staff you have around you. People are willing to try something different. Case in point is the
small roundabout on Hudson and Riverside. What a great exercise to try that first (1St). It is good
to try it before we start putting stuff in permanently. The size of our City is excellent for testing.
No one is going to roll something out in Los Angeles that they wouldn't try here. Whenever we
can be the guinea pig, it is great and we can benefit from that. For every time we get a grant it
alleviates something off the budget and it is good to find that so-called free money. Thank you.
RESOLVE INTO THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
There was no Committee of the Whole at this time.
PUBLIC HEARINGS
There were no Public Hearings at this time.
BILLS—THIRD READING
There were no Third Readings at this time.
RESOLUTIONS
BILL NO.
18-38 A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE
ADOPTION OF A DECLARATORY
RESOLUTION DESIGNATING CERTAIN
AREAS WITHIN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
INDIANA, COMMONLY KNOWN AS LOT 12
US 31 INDUSTRIAL PARK PHASE II AS AN
ECONOMIC REVITALIZATION AREA FOR
PURPOSES OF A FOUR (4) YEAR REAL
PROPERTY TAX ABATEMENT FOR REW, LLC
Dan Buckenmeyer,Director of Business Development with offices on the 141h floor of the County-
City Building, South Bend, IN, served as the presenter for this bill. Mr. Buckenmeyer stated, We
are here to ask Council for their approval on a confirming resolution for a company called
Shambaugh & Son. They are a specialty custom contracting construction and engineering
company. Nearly $2 million of private investment is going in. It is a 13,000 square foot facility
which will be about half office space and half warehouse. They are consolidating two (2) out of
town businesses and locating them in the City of South Bend. They are relocating eighty-six (86)
5
