Sample-Ewing Development Area <br />(1) Commission approval requested for <br />Resolution No. 2229 related to acquisition <br />of property in the Sample-Ewing <br />Development Area by eminent domain. <br />(Underground Pipe & Valve,1100 Prairie <br />Ave.) <br />Mr. Laurent noted that Resolution No. 2229 <br />authorizes staff to send a purchase offer in <br />the amount of $10 to 1100 Corporation for <br />the Underground Pipe & Valve property. <br />This property is a large portion of the <br />Studebaker Area A and its acquisition is <br />necessary to complete the goals of the <br />Studebaker/Oliver Plow Works <br />Redevelopment Strategy. The buildings are <br />outmoded, dinosaur industrial buildings. <br />Staff has met with the owner who is <br />expecting this purchase offer. The price of <br />$10.00 was established based on the average <br />of two MAI-certified appraisals which take <br />into account the environmental condition of <br />the property. Resolution No. 2229 also <br />authorizes the use of eminent domain if <br />agreement on the sale cannot be reached <br />within 30 days of receipt of the purchase <br />offer. <br />Upon a motion by Mr. King, seconded by <br />Mr. Hojnacki and unanimously carried, the <br />Commission approved Resolution No. 2229 <br />related to acquisition of property in the <br />Sample-Ewing Development Area by <br />eminent domain.
