South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -February 3, 2006
4. COMMUNICATIONS
() continued...
Fire Arts Exudes Creative Energy
that Energizes Others
Visitors express their enthusiasm for Fire Arts,
and people like to be with us. One inventor said
he wanted to tap into our creative energy and
wondered how he could get feedback from us.
There seems to be a strong need, previously
unknown, to have a critical mass of creative
people for others to interact with, even if those
others are not artists who will rent space with us.
THE FUTURE OF FIRE ARTS
If we stay in the current building
It took us eleven months to get the PAC building
fixed up and working as an artists' studio. This
needed more time and more money than we had
ever imagined, money we had expected to spend
on equipment. Only recently have we been up
and running as a productive art studio, and the
pace of activities is increasing monthly. Today
we have a lot going on in the studio: increased
production, increasing sales, more art
commissions, more artistic experimentation and
growth. Public interest in us began strong and is
getting stronger. If Fire Arts continues to use this
building, the activities and the interaction with
the public will continue to grow.
Fire Arts is poised to offer workshops to local
and national artists. We have developed two
mailing lists (local and national artists), and we
have a list of international artists eager to teach
workshops at Fire Arts. Since it takes two years
between scheduling and advertising a workshop
and carrying it out, we will only be able to do this
12
