South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -February 3, 2006
4. COMMUNICATIONS
() continued...
regularly at Fire Arts, and otheNS use it as
needed. A former resident spent her August
vacation at Fire Arts casting her sculptures into
bronze.
A Place to Learn ~ Network
Because some artists are not ready for full time
studio commitment, we instituted a Night
Membership. Artists can use our studio and
equipment Tuesday and Thursday nights, the
nights most artists are there working together.
A Place to Develop Professionally
We are setting up a Business of Art office for our
members, but we will also hold Business of Art
workshops and work sessions for area artists.
When the office is complete, we will establish
another local service where area artists may rent
the office to research using our library and files,
or use our office equipment as they work on their
caNeer.
Work sessions for area artists will include group
photo sessions, since artwork is usually judged
(and advertised) through photos. If we hire a
professional for a night, many artists can use
him/her in the one location. Then we can label
the slides in our office.
Another work session will concern our Schedule
C forms. Most CPAs don't use the same
language as artists, which is confusing when
artist and CPA meet and can't communicate.
A Place to Improve One's Skills
Fire Arts is poised to offer workshops to local
and national artists. This is explained below, in
The Future of Fire Arts.
11
