South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —May 18, 2001
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
d. continued...
Mr. Hunt asked the staff to resolve the discrepancy
in the design review process so that variance requests
do not need to come through the Redevelopment
Commission.
e. Commission approval requested for a surface
signage package in the Airport Economic
Development Area (Welsh Oil Mart/Speedway in
the U.S. 31 Industrial Park)
Mr. Schalliol explained that Ashland Oil is buying
out Welsh Mart. As part of the sign conversion
Ashland is making two requests for variance.
There is an existing high rise sign of 110 ft. Ashland
is proposing to put a new sign cabinet on the pole at
59 ft. The cabinet size is 330 sft, larger than the 100
sft allowed by the AEDA guidelines, but less than
the 1023.84 sft allowed by the D -a zoning district.
Based on the lower overall height and Ashland's
agreement to allow other tenants in the area to use
the pole for their signs (a multi -tenant sign), the staff
recommends approving the signage package.
Upon a motion by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by Mr.
Faccenda and unanimously carried, the Commission
approved the surface signage package in the Airport
Economic Development Area (Welsh Oil
Mart/Speedway in the U.S. 31 Industrial Park)
E Commission approval requested for Loan and
Grant in accordance with the Affordable Loan
Program for property located at 1262 Woodward.
(Tiree Crawford)
Mr. Inks noted that the loan is $7,479.00. The grant
is $2,926.00.
COMMISSION APPROVED THE SURFACE SIGNAGE
PACKAGE IN THE AIRPORT ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT AREA (WELSH OIL
MART /SPEEDWAY IN THE U.S. 31 INDUSTRIAL
PARK)
