South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Regular Meeting— December 21, 2001 <br />7. PROGRESS REPORTS (CONT.) <br />Authority for $50,000, of which $40,865 was for a <br />portion of the Phase II Environmental Site <br />Assessment for Area A and $9,135 was for lead <br />based paint sampling at the former Drewry's <br />brewery (grant was approved); in conjunction with <br />the UEZ, submitted a grant application to the <br />Indiana Department of Commerce for $35,000 to <br />fund a portion of the Phase II Environmental Site <br />Assessment for Area A (grant was approved); <br />worked with University of Notre Dame Upward <br />Bound Program on six week study of <br />redevelopment of Studebaker Corridor (students <br />made a presentation of their study to the City <br />Council in September); secured $100,000 for <br />Studebaker /Oliver project from HUD Economic <br />Development Initiative program; secured passage of <br />CREED legislation for Studebaker /Oliver area (This <br />will provide for a CREED district to be established <br />which will allow for collection of increment on <br />sales tax and income tax in the district.); submitted <br />application for Build Indiana funds for Drewry's <br />Brewery environmental remediation (City was <br />funded at $225,000); in conjunction with the <br />Indiana Department of Environmental Management, <br />submitted a grant application to the Environmental <br />Protection Agency for a $100,000 grant for UST <br />field investigation. (Grant application is pending); <br />completed grant applications and received final <br />approval for $1,496,700 of Neighborhood Initiative <br />Funds and $249,450 of Economic Development <br />Initiative Funds; completed Redevelopment <br />Procedure Manual and provided training to <br />redevelopment staff. <br />In the South Bend Central Development Area: <br />completed improvements to the Morris fountain <br />along with installing devices to discourage <br />skateboarding; demolished the C.E. Lee Building; <br />completed the City part of the Crowe project which <br />included returning Wayne Street to two way traffic, <br />14 <br />
