South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Regular Meeting —March 21, 2003 <br />5. OLD BUSINESS (CONT.) <br />A. Sample -Ewing Development Area <br />(1) continued... <br />Ms. Greene advised that the price of the <br />property is related to the Studebaker bond, <br />the limitations on the proceeds the <br />Commission is able to receive on properties <br />in that area. <br />Mr. Keilman commented that if Bell Parts <br />Supply was forced to move they will be <br />taking a considerable risk, particularly on <br />retail business. However, given the cost of <br />the site and the location, they also believe <br />there are a lot of pluses for the community <br />and the City. <br />Mr. Schalliol next introduced Mr. Bill <br />Hambling of Ziolkowski Construction, Inc. <br />to give his presentation. Ziolkowski <br />Construction is primarily interested in <br />expanding its business in the same location. <br />Currently, its existing facilities use about <br />half of the block. They are looking to grow <br />and develop a training center as well as <br />relocate some of the warehousing and <br />maintenance structures. Parcel 7 is adjacent <br />to their current property and they would like <br />to expand there rather than move to a new <br />location. Ziolkowski Construction, Inc. is <br />experiencing growth both in volume and in <br />the number of employees. When the <br />proposal was submitted they employed <br />approximately 400 employees and they are <br />hoping to grow that number to 450 to 500 as <br />the construction season begins. <br />Mr. Hambling expressed excitement in <br />trying to stay in the area.
