South Bend Redevelopment Commission Regular Meeting —April 17, 2003 6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.) A. South Bend Central Development Area (continued...) (2) Commission approval requested for proposal for maintenance services in the South Bend Central Development Area. (St. Joseph /Jefferson Street Garage) Mr. Williams reported on a potentially hazardous situation at the St. Joseph/Jefferson Street Garage located on the corner of St. Joseph Street and Jefferson Boulevard. After a routine inspection, AMPCO detected a hole in the floor of the sixth level decking which has penetrated to the deck below. The hole is located on the ramp area and the realm of decay is much larger on the underside. This area was blocked off immediately and remains blocked off. Paul Fujawa Engineering has inspected and marked the area in need of repair. Kaser - Spraker Construction, a company specializing in this type of repair work, has been contacted to perform the repair. The estimate received totaled approximately $27,000 with a two week time frame. Levels four through six on the north end of the garage will be closed during the maintenance period and traffic will be re- routed. Staff recommends prompt action on the repair and accepting the proposal from Kaser - Spraker. Upon a motion by Ms. Jones, seconded by Mr. Kahn and unanimously carried, the Commission approved the request for professional services in the South Bend Central Development Area and authorized IL staff to retain Kaser - Spraker based on the scope of services and fee proposed.
