Dr. Kelly asked that the Board show their disapproval regarding the recently passed state <br /> gun law allowing the carrying of concealed weapons on park property that supersedes <br /> local ordinances. Director St. Clair agreed. Mr. Goodrich suggested a letter be drafted on <br /> behalf of the Board addressed to the Mayor and City Council and State Legislature. <br /> VI. Approval of Minutes <br /> Dr. Kelly made a motion to approve the minutes of the regular Board meeting held on May 16, <br /> 2011 as mailed. The motion was seconded by Mr. Mullins and approved. <br /> VII. Approval of Maintenance Vouchers <br /> A motion was made by Mr. Mullins to approve maintenance vouchers for May 2011 totaling <br /> $935,755.18. <br /> It was seconded by Dr. Kelly. There being no further discussion,the motion was passed. <br /> VIII. Business of Director St. Clair <br /> 1. Director St. Clair felt the Memorandum of Understanding with the Zoo Society would be <br /> ready for Board approval at the June meeting <br /> 2. He showed some renderings of Miracle Park to the Board. He is speaking with the Airport <br /> Authority regarding land near the airport that could be used. Discussions are being held <br /> regarding a lease of the property. This would save land acquisition costs. The capital plan <br /> before the City Council contains a $1 million request for the park. <br /> 3. Also included is $1.2 million for improvements to the Conservatory. <br /> 4. The first Blues and Ribs Fest was held a week ago. Approximately 2,000 people were in <br /> attendance and it went very smoothly. He felt it was very successful. He thanked all the City <br /> staff for their help, as well as all the volunteers that participated. <br /> 5. The 2012 budget is starting to be put together. <br /> IX. Comments by the Elbel Golf Director <br /> 1. Mr. TJ Mannen reported that all the GPS advertisements for Elbel are sold and there are <br /> 3-4 left at the Erskine course. <br /> 2. The Demo Day sales were very good. <br /> 3. The weather has been bad for golf. There have been a lot of rain days. When the sun is <br /> shining,play has been good. They have been running promotions to try to recover some of <br /> the lost rounds. <br /> 4. Bunker restoration has been on going. 9-10 bunkers at Elbel that were deemed not to <br /> come into play have been filled and sodded. <br /> X. Comments by the Zoo Director <br /> 1. Mr. DeRosa said that school groups that were booked for April rescheduled for May. <br /> 2. He showed the Board some drawings of the playground planned for the buffalo area. <br /> These were done by a landscape architect that is donating his time. Estimates will be <br /> requested for this area. <br /> - - 4 - - <br />
