South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting—February 20, 2004
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearings
(1) continued...
Mr. Mathia reported that Resolution
No. 2029 adds two (2) properties to the
South Bend Central Development Area
acquisition list. The first property is the
Hotel LaSalle, whose principal address is
237 N. Michigan Street. The hotel is an
architecturally significant building that is
currently vacant and adjacent to the
Morris/Palais complex. Preservation of the
hotel is preferred to complement the
Morris/Palais complex in which the
Commission has made a substantial
investment. The second property,
commonly known as the Rink Building, is
located at 209 Colfax Street on the
St. Joseph River. It is an excellent site for
redevelopment in an area of existing
development concentration on the East
Bank. Staff recommends approval of
Resolution No. 2029.
Mr. Hunt opened the Public Hearing on
Resolution No. 2029 and asked if there was
anyone from the public who wished to
speak. There being no one from the public
who wished to speak regarding Resolution
No. 2029, Mr. Hunt closed the Public
Hearing for whatever action the Commission
wished to take.
Mr. Livingston noted that Resolution
No. 2029 is an amendment to a
Development Plan governed by Indiana
Code 36 -7 -14 -17.5 and before approving the
proposed amendment, the Commission must
4
PUBLIC HEARING ON RESOLUTION NO. 2029 A
RESOLUTION OF THE SOUTH BEND
REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION AMENDING THE
SOUTH BEND CENTRAL DEVELOPMENT AREA
DEVELOPMENT PLAN.
