Marstin, C1 rk <br />Vasquez, Member <br />Miller, <br />REGULAR MEETING JUNE 15 2011 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in the regular meeting at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, <br />with Board Members Patrick Cottrell, Bruce BonDurant, Laura Vasquez, and Eddie Miller present. <br />Board President Juanita Dempsey was absent. Also present were Assistant Police Chief Jeffery <br />Walters, Fire Chief Howard Buchanon and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar. <br />The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13t" Floor County City <br />Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br />ACCEPT MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS <br />Mr. Cottrell advised that if there were no objections by members of the Board, the Minutes of the <br />Public Agenda Session, Executive Session, and Regular Meetings of the Board held on May 18, <br />2011 would be accepted as presented. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />APPROVE REQUEST FOR EXTENDED MEDICAL LEAVE — JAMES TAYLOR <br />In a letter to the Board, Chief Boykins, Police Department, stated that Patrolman James Taylor <br />requests the Board grant him a paid extended medical leave of approximately forty-two (42) calendar <br />days from July 8, 2011 to August 18, 2011. Chief Boykins stated the request is being made as a <br />precaution just in case; more than likely Patrolman Taylor will not need to use it. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. BonDurant, seconded by Ms. Vasquez and carried, the extended medical leave was <br />approved as outlined above. <br />APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT --- WEED & SEED ALLIANCE INC. <br />Ms. Pam Meyer, Community Development, stated Community Development is the administrator of <br />the Weed and Seed Alliance agreement. This agreement is with the Weed and Seed Alliance and the <br />City Police Department. She stated the Alliance helped fund the Police Department Boxing Program. <br />Ms. Meyer noted the program ends June 30, 2011, and it was thought the agreement had already been <br />brought before the Board for approval for this year. However, she realized it had not, and apologized <br />for bringing it to the Board so late in the year. Mr. Cottrell asked if the program will run through the <br />end of summer. Ms. Meyer stated it will only run until the end of June, 2011. Upon a motion made <br />by Mr. BonDurant, seconded by Ms. Vasquez and carried, the agreement was approved, <br />ACCEPT AND APPROVE RESIGNATION — JASON BORRELL <br />Chief Boykins advised the Board that he is in receipt of a letter of request for resignation from <br />Patrolman Jason Borrell in which he tenders his resignation from the South Bend Police Department, <br />
