South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -July 20, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearings
continue ...
We've had a comfortable relationship with
them. They've made it very comfortable for
us to acquire that property. We've invested
hundreds of thousands of dollars to revitalize
the LaSalle Square and we certainly support
this resolution. We welcome any changes to
beautify that area and attract retail.
JOHN WILHITE: Thank you Pastor Miller
for that promotion. I am with the Indiana
University Foundation. We were happy to
sell the property to Pastor Miller and the
congregation. We still own the piece a
couple of blocks from there and Nick and I
are going to talk. Naturally, we're in favor of
this resolution also.
Jerry Niezgodski: Lincolnway West
Gateway Association. LaSalle Square is in
the heart of our neighborhood association
boundaries. I'd also like to speak in favor of
Resolution No. 2351. As we've said before,
we see this as a positive step forward and we
look at what has recently happened in the
Northeast Neighborhood, the partnerships
they used to move forward with their desires
to make it a better area. We want to use that
as a model to work with some of the other
industry such as Bosch and Honeywell, and
the neighbors, and definitely Rev. Miller and
the congregation there, so that we can make
LaSalle Square-there's a gem there on the
Northeast side that's about to be uncovered,
we look at this the same way. We look at
this hidden gem that has great potential. We
urge you for favorable passage of this
resolution.
10
