South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —June 14, 2011
direction the city wanted move in. The
Commission will continue to wait for further
direction from the Mayor and the Council. The
Communications from Ms. Schey and Ms.
Wesolowsi are included here in their entirety.
618111 E -mail:
Dear President Jones,
I am writing in regard to next Tuesday's (6114)
Redevelopment Commission Agenda (attached).
Respectfully, I would like to ask if you would be
willing to reintroduce agenda item 6c. (4) from the
5124111 agenda to the 6114111 agenda. This issue
has been the source of on going debate since 1996.
Further debate will only lead to more adoptable
animals being euthanized due to the significant
space constraints at the current South Bend Animal
Care and Control (SBA CC) facility.
I am not alone in my desire to see this funding
request and this construction project move
forward. For you reference, I have attached a
citizens letter of request with the corresponding
signatures to support our request.
Due to the logistics of doubling the intake at one
facility, the suggestion of merging the animal
control agencies would likely only increase the
number of adoptable animals euthanized and not
decrease that number as some have suggested.
Finally, we respectfully ask that you consider our
sense of urgency regarding this request. For every
additional month that this project gets delayed,
another estimated 223 * animals will be
euthanized. Please provide us with the courtesy of
a reply to this e-mail.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Sincerely,
2
