South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —March 8, 2011
Mr. Strickler noted that it's time someone
from the city goes out and does some selling.
Blue Waters Group attends an awful lot of
major conferences on behalf of other clients.
Other tech parks are there selling their parks.
Mr. Strickler would like to see South Bend at
those conferences.
Mr. Varner questioned whether Mr. Strickler
would be willing to provide the Commission
with a 15 -20 page report of what South Bend
should be doing. Mr. Strickler said he doesn't
have the answers to everything but he sees
people playing the game and has been
watching for seven years.
Ms. Spivey questioned the relationship
between Mr. Strickler, the Chamber of
Commerce and mayor. Mr. Strickler noted
there is a very strong working relationship.
For instance, Phil Damico from the Chamber
staff is also on the staff for Economic
Development with whom he has worked very
closely. In addition to working with Mr.
Gibney, the mayor, and others in city
government itself, Blue Waters Group also
works very closely with the economic
development people.
Mr. Gibney added that it's a very inclusive
process and the mayor has been a very active
participant in making decisions about
product, message, design, color and all kinds
of things. The mayor is very much included
in all of this and is always asked for final
approval.
Mr. Downes asked whether Mr. Strickler
could provide more statistics and
benchmarking during the next phase.
