South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —March 8, 2011
population to determine what levels of
interest and satisfaction are and though the
numbers are still coming in, 83% of those
readers are saying southbendON is proving
to be a very significant tool in understanding
where South Bend is going, where it is today
and what's going on here. The newsletter
itself, as small a thing as it might be, in the
face of the South Bend Tribune's much
larger circulation, is in fact one of the best
tools, and continued investment as proposed
is very important. Fifty major articles have
been placed all over the country and even
overseas about what's going on in South
Bend. Through meeting brochures, the video,
shows out at the airport and other things,
Blue Waters Group is slowly getting the
story out and it's a difficult story to put out
because people have a different
understanding of South Bend than is true
today. Blue Waters Group has invested the
city's money as well as it can be managed in
various tools, video tapes, ads, publicity,
websites, etc. Blue Waters Group is here to
ask you for your continued support and we
are very strongly committed to help South
Bend succeed.
Mr. Varner noted that the city now has a
$2M investment in consulting for Ignition
Park. He wondered how much more is
needed. Mr. Strickler explained that there is
a bell curve in moving something like this
forward. There's been an enormous amount
of money and time spent and a lot of people
working on this project, not only here but
outside of South Bend. The task at hand
gains a certain momentum and then we begin
to spend less and less time on it because the
story starts to take care of itself. So the
answer to the question is that after this year
things will begin to taper off.
16
