-: <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 4, 1981 <br />Auditorium and south of the Water Works Building. It was noted that <br />both leases were on a month -to -month basis at a cost of $1.00. Upon <br />a motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, <br />the leases were approved. <br />REQUEST FOR PAUL F. BOEHM MINI - MARATHON <br />Mr. Robert C. Goodrich, Recreation Director for the South Bend Park <br />Department, requested permission to again hold the Paul F. Boehm <br />Mini - Marathon in the area surrounding Rum Village Park. It was <br />requested that the marathon be held on Saturday, June 27, 1981, in <br />the morning. The route submitted utilized Gertrude Street between <br />Ewing and Ireland, a portion of Keria Trail and a portion of Chippewa. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting and the Police Traffic Division for review and recommendation. <br />REOUEST OF SALVATION ARMY TO ERECT BOOTH ON RIVER BEND PLAZA <br />In a letter to the Board, Captain Craig Stoker of the Salvation Army <br />requested permission to place an Emergency Disaster Canteen on River <br />Bend Plaza on May 21, 1981, from 9 :00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., in conjunction <br />with Salvation Army Week to be celebrated May 16 through 23, 1981. <br />It was noted that coffee and doughnuts would be sold from the booth <br />for a donation. A Certificate of Insurance covering the event and naming <br />the City of South Bend as an additional insured was submitted. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the <br />request was referred to the Controller's Office for review and recom- <br />mendation. <br />APPROVE SALE OF POPPIES BY AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY <br />A request was received from the American Legion Bendix Post #284 for <br />permission to sell poppies on the city streets on May 15 and May 16, <br />1981, at the Bendix Corporation. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was approved, provided <br />that the sale of the veteran -made poppies be confined to the public <br />sidewalks. <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY (103 -105 CARLISLE STREET) <br />A request was received from Huey Schoby, 2209 West Washington Street, <br />inquiring into the possibility of purchasing a city -owned lot <br />located at 103 -105 Carlisle Street. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the inquiry was <br />referred to the various city agencies for a determination as to <br />whether or not the city need retain the lot for any reason. <br />APPROVE CONCESSION TRUCK (LEEPER PARK ART FAIR). <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, <br />recommended that the request of Mr. Dick Evans, Chairman of the <br />Leeper Park Art Fair, for permission to park a concession truck on <br />Riverside Drive be denied in the interests of public safety. Mr. <br />Wadzinski advised that, instead of parking the truck on Riverside <br />Drive and exposing any pedestrian or child to danger on the street, <br />the truck be parked on the park property and concessions sold at <br />that location. Mr. :James Seitz, Superintendent of Parks, had been <br />contacted regarding the parking of the truck on park property, and <br />had agreed to allow the truck to be parked on the grass area, approx- <br />imately but no less than 20 feet south of the south curb of Riverside <br />Drive at some point east of the duck pond. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the Board concurred <br />in this decision. <br />
