REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 26, 1981
VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3504, 1981 - CONFIRMED
(E /W ALLEY, HARTER HEIGHTS 2ND ADDITION)
This was the date set for holding a public hearing on Vacation Resolu-
tion No. 3504, 1981, for the vacation of the first east -west alley
north of St. Vincent, running from the easterly right -of -way of Niles
Avenue to the west right -of -way line of St. Joseph for an approximate
distance of 200' in Harter Heights Addition. The Clerk tendered
proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the
Tri- County News which were found to be sufficient. Letters had
been received from the various city agencies indicating that there
was no objection to the proposed vacation. There was no one present
to remonstrate against the vacation and no written remonstrances
were received. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by
Mr. Hill and carried, the Board confirmed the Vacation Resolution
and ordered the preparation of the Assessment Roll to be filed on
February 2, 1931.
FILING OF NOTICE TO VACATE (121 SOUTH MICHIGAN STREET)
Mr. Leszczynski advised that notification had been received from the
Department of Redevelopment, pursuant to Lease dated October 9, 1978,
to vacate the premises at 121 South Michgian Street within ninety
days from January 21, 1981. The Board was advised that the Department
of Redevelopment intended to commence demolition of the premises in
April, 1981. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr.
Kernan and carried, the Notice to Vacate was filed and the Clerk
instructed to notify the affected parties involved. It was noted
that the Youth Services Bureau had already vacated the premises;
however, the River Bend Plaza Maintenance staff and office still
occupied the building.
APPROVE CEREMONY FOR HONORING RETURN OF 52 AMERICAN HOSTAGES
Ms. Mikki Dobski, River Bend Plaza Coordinator, on behalf of WSBT,
requested permission from the Board to hold a ceremony honoring
the return of the hostages in front of the County -City Building on
Friday, January 30, 1981, at 9:00 a.m. Her letter to the Board
indicated that plans for the event included various speeches, the
Marine Corp Honor Guard, music by a high school band, and the burning
of the symbolic yellow ribbon. Upon a motion made by Mr. Hill,
seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the ceremony was approved subject
to recommendations of the Police and Fire Departments concerning
location of the event, safety precautions and crowd control. A
Certificate of Insurance must also be filed in advance of the activity
as required.
APPROVE EXTENSION OF LEASE (DISCOVERY HALL - OMNIPLEX CENTER)
Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Gust Saros, Director of Discovery
Hall, was desirous of extending the city's lease with Omniplex Center
for a portion of the premises located at 1408 Elwood under the same
terms and conditions as the current lease. It was noted that the
building housed equipment and vehicles belonging to Discovery Hall.
Deputy City Attorney Crone advised that the present lease provided
an option to the city of extending the lease until November 30, 1981.
Upon a motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and
carried, approval was given to extend the lease to November 30, 1981,
under the same terms and conditions of the current lease.
APPROVE RENEWAL OF LEASE ( MICHIANA REGIONAL WAREHOUSE)
Mr. Leszczynski stated that the city currently leased a portion of
the Studebaker Foundry on Prairie Avenue from Michiana Regional
Warehouse for a monthly rate of $2,372.45, for the storage of sand
and salt by the Street Department.
