24 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 11, 1978 <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT RADIO EQUIPMENT BIDS REJECTED <br />Chief Michael Borkowski, Police Department, reported to the Board <br />that his department no longer finds it possible to purchase radio <br />equipment due to lack of funds. He recommended that the bids <br />received by the Board on this equipment be rejected and returned <br />to the bidders. Chief Borkowski informed the Board he will notify <br />them at some future date as to when this radio equipment can be <br />bid again. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. <br />Brunner and carried, the Police Department Radio Equipment bids <br />were rejected and the Clerk was instructed to notify the bidders <br />of this information and that the equipment will be bid again <br />at some date in the future. <br />SOUTH BEND HANDICAPPED PARKING PERMIT APPROVED <br />An application for a Handicapped Parking Permit was submitted to <br />the Board by Mrs. E. P. Schulz. The applicant submitted certifica- <br />tion from her physician. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded <br />by Mr. Brunner and carried, the application was approved and <br />forwarded to the City Controller's Office for issuance of the permit. <br />REOUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED LOT AT 322 LaPORTE AVENUE <br />Mr. James E. Worsham, 320 LaPorte Avenue, submitted a request for <br />information regarding the purchase of a city -owned lot at 322 <br />LaPorte Avenue. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by <br />Mr. Brunner and carried, the request was referred to the Park <br />Department, Engineering Department, Community Development <br />Department, Redevelopment Department and the Mayor's Office for <br />review and a determination as to whether the lot should be retained <br />for any purpose. <br />STREET LIGHT RECOMMENDATIONS APPROVED <br />Joseph J. Pluta, Assistant Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting, submitted to the Board the following street light <br />recommendations: <br />Removal of 2500L <br />W. They <br />were asked to attempt to complete the projects before the home <br />opener of Notre Dame football to accommodate the large volumes <br />of traffic generated in the area during a Notre Dame football <br />game. Both projects have been completed to the extent that they <br />were used last weekend for the home opener. The signals at Ironwood <br />and Edison should be up in about two weeks. Angela Hill has some <br />finishing up work to be done at the side street approaches and <br />some landscaping. This should be taken care of very soon. <br />Ironwood and Edison is being done by Arco Construction and Angela <br />Hill is being done by Ziolkowski Construction. Mr. McMahon said <br />
