In effect, Bartlett Street is not wide enough to accommodate all of the needs expected from it. Making 100 W. Bartlett one -way westbound will alleviate the traffic and turning problems from Bartlett onto Michigan and will allow parking to remain for the business places in that area. This temporary one - way situation will be in effect until mid 1979. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the recom- mendation to make 100 W. Bartlett one -way westbound from Michigan to Main was approved. PARKING REMOVAL - 700 AND 800 BLOCK N. MICHIGAN Ralph Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, reported to the Board that in connection with the construction at the Memorial Hospital site and with the revised traffic pattern at Memorial Hospital, the northbound left turn demand for westbound Bartlett has increased. This demand causes unnecessary backups for northbound traffic. With parking on the east side of the street on the approach and exit to Bartlett, it is impossible for northbound traffic to swing around these waiting left turn vehicles. The Bureau recommended the following removal of parking from the east side of Michigan from Bartlett: a. To the first alley south of Bartlett, b. To a point approximately 150' north of Bartlett, to facilitate the movement of traffic around those vehicles wishing to turn left onto Bartlett. The recommendation is seen as temporary at this time, but future traffic volumes to the new traffic pattern in the vicinity of Memorial Hospital will dictate whether the parking restrictions are to remain in the future years or can be removed. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board approved the temporary removal of parking in the 700 and 800 block of N. Michigan Street. REQUEST SOLICITATION.AT INTERSECTIONS - AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY The Board received a request from the American Cancer Society for permission to distribute leaflets and to ask for contributions at various intersections in the city on October 7 from 10:00 to 2:00 p.m. They are requesting the use of the following intersections: 1. Eddy and Angela 2. Edison and Ironwood 3. Northside and Sample 4. Ironwood and Pleasant 5. Twyckenham and McKinley Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board referred the request to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department for their review and recommendation. REQUEST TO ERECT TENT AND TO BLOCK ALLEY SCOTTISH RITE A request was received from the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, 427 N. Main Street to erect a tent in their,parking lot behind the Masonic Temple and to close the alley behind the parking lot on September 21, 1978 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. This is in conjunction with a fish fry they are having for their members. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board approved the request subject to concurrence of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, Police Department, Fire Department and Building Department.
