221 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />HANDICAPPED PARKING PERMITS APPROVED <br />AUGUST 14, 1978 <br />In compliance with the new City Ordinance providing for the <br />issuance of Handicapped Parking Permits, the following applications <br />were received: <br />Edward Shelton, 913 Leland Avenue <br />Jack A. Benedict, 1021 Canterbury Drive <br />Both applicants provided certification from their physicians that <br />they are handicapped. Mr. Mullen noted that the Permit Stickers <br />have been ordered and applications will be considered from those <br />who do not have Disabled or Special Registration Plates from the <br />State of Indiana.. He pointed out that the South Bend ordinance is <br />broader than state motor vehicle requirements and some individuals <br />who do not qualify for state plates could apply for the City permit. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, <br />the Board approved the applications for Mr. Shelton and Mr. Benedict <br />and referred them to the Controiler's.Office for issuance of the <br />permits. <br />REQUEST FOR BLOCK PARTY ON MARINE STREET RECEIVED <br />The Board received a request from residents of the 1800 block <br />Marine Street to hold a Block Party on September 3 from 3:00 p.m. <br />to 11:00 p.m. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. <br />Mullen and carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting and the Police Department for review and recommendation. <br />FOUR -WAY STOP AT PULASKI AND HURON APPROVED <br />A report from the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting regarding the request <br />for a 4 -Way Stop at Pulaski and Huron Street was filed with the Board <br />and referred to the Legal Department for review. Mr. Brunner made <br />a motion that the Board approve installation of a 4 -Way Stop at <br />Pulaski and Huron Streets. Mr. Mullen seconded the motion and it <br />carried. <br />TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES APPROVED <br />Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, <br />submitted the following recommendations for traffic control: <br />A. Installation of Stop Signs on Abshire at Cambridge, an uncontrolled <br />tee intersection. <br />B. Installation of Stop Signs on Cambridge at Berkshire, an <br />uncontrolled tee intersection. <br />C. Installation of Stop Signs on Raleigh at Cambridge, an uncontrolled <br />tee intersection. <br />D. Installation of Stop Sign on Grove at Woodland (east leg). <br />The`County Engineer is to be notified as the west leg is in the <br />county. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, <br />the recommendations were approved. <br />
