43( <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO SELL POPPIES <br />MAY 19, 1980 <br />Mr. John Dickens, Post Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, <br />Post No. 9733, submitted his request for permission to sell poppies <br />on the public sidewalks on May 23 and May 24, 1980. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request <br />was approved. <br />APPROVE TENT AT TIPPECANOE PLACE - SOUTHHOLD RESTORATIONS <br />A request of Southhold Restorations to erect a tent at Tippecanoe <br />Place on May 22, 1980, was submitted. In connection with Historic <br />Preservation Week, Southhold was conducting an award ceremony on <br />the property starting at 11:30 a.m. The Board was advised that <br />City Awning Company would erect the 30 x 45 foot, fire -proof tent <br />to accommodate 200 people for approximately five hours. It was <br />noted that Southhold has obtained insurance on the tent with Tower <br />Insurance Agency and also has its own liability insurance. Mr. <br />McMahon advised that certain fire requirements needed to be complied <br />with, such as having fire extinguishers handy, posting no- smoking <br />signs, fire - proofed tent, the tent located at least 10 feet away <br />from any building and not directly under any power lines. Upon <br />a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, <br />the request was approved subject to the filing of a Certificate <br />of Insurance in the Board Office, and compliance with fire regulations. <br />ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION NO. 9. 1980 - DISPOSE OF OBSOLETE VEHICLES <br />RESOLUTION NO. 9. 1980 <br />WHEREAS, it has been determined by the Board of Public Works <br />that the following vehicles are obsolete and deteriorated to <br />the point where repair costs would exceed their value: <br />Substandard Building Department <br />Mechanical No. 611, 1973 Chevrolet <br />Serial No. 1K69H3J235258 <br />Mechanical No. 615, 1972 Plymouth <br />Serial No. PK41G20241963 <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 186, Acts of 1967, of the Indiana General <br />Assembly, permits the sale of personal property no longer <br />needed or obsolete. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works of <br />the City of South Bend that the above listed vehicles are <br />obsolete and not needed by the City of South Bend. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Bureau of Vehicle Maintenance <br />be authorized to scrap said vehicles and that they be removed <br />from the City Vehicle Inventory. <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />s/ Patrick M. Byers, Clerk <br />Mr. McMahon advised that the two vehicles being disposed were the <br />vehicles recently replaced in the Builidng Department from Harold <br />Medow, Inc. Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. <br />Kernan and carried, the resolution was adopted. <br />
