4,2 6 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 5. 1980 <br />3. Jefferson Boulevard - This Bureau recommends the <br />closing of Jefferson Boulevard at the discretion <br />of police officers assigned to this location. The <br />closings would be effective only July 4th thru July <br />6th. The decision would be predicated upon the <br />amount of pedestrian traffic crossing Jefferson at <br />the Plaza. <br />4. River Bend Plaza, Jefferson to Wayne Street - This <br />Bureau finds no objection with.non -food displays <br />being held on the Plaza provided: <br />a. The fire lane is maintained free of <br />any obstructions at all times; and, <br />b. At least 10' of pedestrian side -oialk <br />.area is maintained at all times <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the above recommendations for street closings were <br />approved. <br />A request for free parking in the Municipal Garage at the corner <br />of Main and Colfax, free parking on all city -owned surface lots <br />(except Lot 1), and the use of City Lot l for free parking for <br />the Ethnic Festival booth operators was referred to the City <br />Controller for his review and recommendation. <br />APPROVE FOURTH OF JULY RACE - ETHNIC FESTIVAL <br />A report from Mr. Ralph.J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting, recommended approval of the request for the <br />annual Fourth of July 5 -Mile Race commencing and finishing at the <br />Century Center parking lot. The groups involved in planning the <br />race were instructed to contact the Traffic Division within the <br />next two weeks to arrange for necessary manpower. Approval was <br />also granted by the Century Center Board of Managers for the <br />use of the Century Center parking lot for the race. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr—Hill and carried, <br />the request for the race was approved, subject to the filing of <br />the required Certificate of Insurance and documentation of medical <br />back -up, outdoor restroom facilities and an accounting of funds <br />raised by the event. <br />APPROVE RECOMMENDATIONS RE: CLEVELAND ROAD EXTENSION - <br />BRICK ROAD BY -PASS ....... <br />A petition submitted to the Board on April 28, 1980, expressed <br />concern with the hazardous conditions of the.construction. In <br />partial response to the petition, the following recommendations . <br />were submitted by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting: <br />1. Restripe pavement markings (centerline <br />completed week ending May 2, 1980). <br />2. Additional deliniation of the median walls. <br />3. Additional end of wall markings. <br />4. Warning signage for Brick - "Cleveland <br />intersection. <br />It was noted that the above recommendations were to be considered <br />"near- term " measures to be employed while possible geometric <br />changes are studied. Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, the recommendations were approved. <br />1 <br />
