320 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />APPROVE REQUEST - MICHIANA LUNG RUN <br />JANUARY 21. 1980 <br />Mr. McMahon indicated that the American Lung Association was request- <br />ing permission to conduct a foot race called the Michiana Lung Run <br />on June 7, 1980, at 8:00 a.m. He indicated that the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting and the Traffic Division concurred and <br />recommended approval of the race. It was indicated that the route <br />was the same as that used in 1979 and appeared to be satisfactory. <br />The parties involved were asked to contact Captain Sweitzer within <br />the next month to arrange for manpower. Upon a motion made by <br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the request was <br />approved, subject to the filing of the appropriate Certificate <br />of Insurance. <br />APPROVE REQUEST — MICHIANA BLOOD DONORS RUN <br />Mr. McMahon indicated that the St. Joseph County Blood Bank was <br />requesting permission to conduct a marathon on May 24, 1980. He <br />indicated that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Traffic <br />Division concurred and recommended approval of the marathon. The <br />starting and finishing point was designated at Leeper Park, with <br />the route being Riverside Drive to Pinhook Park and back. It <br />was recommended that the starting time of the race be no later <br />than 9:00 a.m., with 8:00 a.m, preferable. The parties involved <br />were asked to contact Captain Sweitzer within the next two weeks <br />to arrange for manpower. Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was approved subject <br />to the filing of the appropriate Certificate of Insurance. <br />APPROVAL OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES <br />Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, <br />submitted to the Board the following recommendations for traffic <br />control: <br />New installation of 1 -hour parking, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday <br />through Friday, West side of Franklin Street from Sample to Garst, <br />as requested by the Department of Public Welfare and the Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded <br />by Mr. Kernan and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />Removal of 1 -hour parking, revised to no parking, stopping, standing - <br />tow zone - South side of 400 West Sample, from the South Bend Lathe <br />Gate E to Franklin Street, as requested by the Traffic Division <br />and the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. Upon motion made by Mr. <br />McMahon, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the recommendation <br />was approved. <br />New installation of no parking - both sides of Sample Street from <br />Arnold, east to alley,east of and parallel to Michigan Street, as <br />requested by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Indiana <br />State Highway Commission. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />New installation of stop sign on Crescent at Niles, as requested <br />by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. Upon motion made by Mr. <br />McMahon, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the recommendation <br />was approved. <br />New installation of 1 -hour parking, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., East <br />side of 500 South Main, north one -half block, as requested by <br />the Salvation Army Thrift Store. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />
