REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 1, 1979
TAXICAB LICENSE DENIED - CLIFFORD FIDLER
City Controller Peter H. Mullen submitted to the Board the
application of Clifford Fidler for a taxicab license. The Police
Department has recommended denial of the license and Mr. Mullen
concurred in that recommendation based on the fact that the
applicant misrepresented the fact that his license was suspended
on two occasions and that he is presently driving with a restricted
license. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner
and carried, with Mr. Mullen abstaining, the Board filed the
recommendation to deny the license and the Clerk was directed to
advise the applicant that he may request a hearing before the
Board on the denial if he wishes.
PETITION FOR BARRETT LAW SEWER CONSTRUCTION FILED
A petition signed by Mr. & Mrs. Robert Clark, 1914 S. Meade Street,
and William D. Marvin, 1922 S. Meade Street, for the construction
of sanitary sewers under Barrett Law on Meade Street, between
Calvert and Ewing, was submitted to the Board. Upon motion made by
Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board filed
the petition and referred it to the Division of Engineering for
review and the preparation of preliminary plans and cost estimates.
REQUEST TO ERECT CANOPY FILED - 200 W. SOUTH STREET
The Board received a request from City Awning Company to erect
a canopy on the public sidewalk at the location of the South Bend
Merchandise Mart, 200 W. South Street, formerly the South Bend
Chrysler Plymouth location. A drawing of the proposed canopy was
enclosed. The Bureau of Traffic and Lighting has reviewed the
proposed installation and has no objections if the canopy is
erected in accordance with Code requirements. Upon motion made
by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the request
was referred to the Building Department for review.
TEMPORARY TRAILER APPROVED - FABRICATED STEEL PRODUCTS
The Board received a request from Fabricated Steel Products,
2025 South Main Street, to locate a temporary construction trailer
in their parking lot while a new building is constructed. Upon
motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried,
the Board approved the temporary trailer for a six month period,
until April 1, 1980, subject to the concurrence of the Building
Commissioner.
VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3479 ADOPTED
Mr. McMahon noted receipt of reports from the Area Plan Commission
and the Engineering Department regarding the review of the petition
of Blackburn Collection Service to vacate the north -south alley
running south from Mishawaka Avenue to the first east -west alley
adjacent to Lot 1 of Baker and McHenry Addition. The petition
is recommended favorably. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded
by Mr. Mullen and carried, the reports were filed and the following
resolution was adopted by the Board:
VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3479, 1979
RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
INDIANA, That it is desirable to vacate the following.
211
